7. Georgia

from: Georgia; In: Encyclopaedia Judaica 1971, Vol. 7

1941-1944: The Big Flight from Barbarossa: Jews settling in Georgia

<During World War II Jews from the Nazi-occupied territories temporarily settled in Georgia. The encounter with the stream of Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe (col. 425)

who arrived in Georgia did much to stimulate national awareness among Georgian Jewry. The support given by the Soviet Union in establishing the State of Israel also encouraged national feelings.> (col 426)

[Unfortunately there is no figure of Jews indicated coming from Eastern Europe 1941-1942, and unfortunately there is no figure indicated of Jews leaving for Europe in 1944-1945].
